GoldMine 2021.2 Released!

Wizard Systems are pleased to announce the release of GoldMine 2021.2.  Here are the highlights:

The following libraries where upgraded:
- The cURL library was updated to version 7.78.0
- The Add-In Express library was updated to 9.4.4644.0 only for GoldMine Plus for Microsoft Outlook
- Migrated the GoldMine Plus for Microsoft Outlook from .NET Framework 2.0 to .NET Framework 4.0
- Replaced the SQL Server connection provider SQL Server Native Client OLE DB with Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server
- Removed the Net-Update tab from License manager window.

Attention - GoldMine Users using Gmail in GoldMine - Important statement from Google for 14th March 2025

Gmail Corporate and Personal accounts may become unusable from within GoldMine as of March 14, 2025.

 

GoldMine Support was recently made aware of Google's/Gmail's plan to discontinue the use of "Less Secure Apps" for Corporate accounts. This will become effective March 14, 2025. The requirement will now be that anyone using a Google/Gmail Corporate account will need to connect via OAUTH. Google is implementing this change to make email accounts more secure.

 

GoldMine had previously added the OAUTH2 capability to comply with new email security requirements for Personal Gmail accounts starting in the 2020.1.1 release. More recently GoldMine Support was made aware of a change that affected Personal Gmail Accounts in GoldMine using OAUTH. Once this was reported, GoldMine Support immediately released a workaround for the reported behavior that was affecting Personal accounts. This has successfully been used since September 2024. Affected users were receiving the following error when trying to connect: "This app is blocked" error when re-connecting Gmail account at the E-mail Account Properties screen." This error has been reported to Development and a Problem has been opened (103526). If you are currently affected by this reported behaviour

GoldMine Support was recently informed of an upcoming change effective March 14, 2025, affecting Corporate accounts continued ability to use "Less Secure Apps". Notification of this upcoming change was sent directly to Google Corporate account holders by Google.  GoldMine Support immediately initiated discussions with Development and opened Problem Ticket (105765) for investigation. GoldMine Support has been in frequent communication with the GoldMine Development team, who in turn has been in constant communication with Google Developers.

 

Unfortunately, there is concern that it is possible that all GoldMine users using Gmail as their email client may be affected by this upcoming change implemented by Google. We wanted to proactively prepare our customers for this possibility. As of today, there is currently no confirmed workaround for the upcoming change.

 

Rest assured this is of highest priority for GoldMine Support and Development as we work towards a resolution in conjunction with Google. GoldMine Support will update the Community pages with any updates and/or workarounds.

Navigating Google’s 2025 Security Update: Essential Steps for GoldMine CRM Users to Maintain Gmail Integration

Google recently announced a critical security update taking effect in March 2025, which will restrict third-party applications like GoldMine CRM from accessing Gmail via basic username/password authentication. Instead, all connections must use the more secure OAuth 2.0 protocol. This change is part of Google’s broader effort to combat phishing, unauthorized access, and data breaches by retiring “less secure apps” (LSAs). For GoldMine users, this means proactive steps are required to ensure uninterrupted email functionality within the CRM.

Why Is Google Enforcing OAuth 2.0?
OAuth 2.0 is an industry-standard authorization framework that replaces the outdated practice of sharing passwords with third-party apps. Unlike basic authentication, OAuth 2.0:
- Eliminates password sharing: Users grant access via secure tokens, reducing the risk of credential theft.
- Granular permissions: Apps like GoldMine only receive access to specific scopes (e.g., sending emails, reading contacts) rather than full account control.
- Short-lived tokens: Tokens expire automatically, limiting exposure if compromised.
- Compliance: Aligns with modern security standards demanded by enterprises and regulatory bodies.

Google’s deadline means that after March 2025, apps using basic authentication (POP3/IMAP with passwords) will no longer connect to Gmail. Failure to switch to OAuth 2.0 will result in email sync failures, disrupted workflows, and missed communications in GoldMine.

How to Switch to OAuth 2.0 in GoldMine
For most users, upgrading to OAuth 2.0 is straightforward:
1. Navigate to Email Settings:
- Open GoldMine and go to Tools → Options → Email.
- Under the Getting Mail section, select OAuth2 from the dropdown menu.
- Choose Google or Office 365 Work/School, depending on your email provider.

2. Authenticate with Google:
- Click Connect. A browser window will open, prompting you to log into your Google account.
- Grant permissions for GoldMine to access your email (e.g., “View and send emails”).

3. Verify Configuration:
- Test sending/receiving emails within GoldMine to confirm the setup works.

What If OAuth 2.0 Isn’t Available?
If your GoldMine version only shows POP3 or IMAP options, you’re likely running an older release (pre-2020). To resolve this:
1. Upgrade GoldMine:
- Versions 2020.1 and newer natively support OAuth 2.0. Contact Wizard Systems to schedule an upgrade.
- Check your current version under Help → About GoldMine.

2. Temporary Workaround:
- For older versions, Google allows generating app passwords (if 2-Step Verification is enabled). However, this is a stopgap solution and not recommended long-term, as app passwords will also be phased out.

Why Upgrade GoldMine?
Beyond OAuth 2.0 compliance, newer GoldMine versions offer:
- Enhanced security features like MFA integration.
- Improved email tracking and synchronization.
- Compatibility with modern APIs and third-party tools.
