GoldMine Mobile

GoldMine Mobile vs GoldMine Web - What's best ?

Goldmine web vs mobile

GoldMine Web and GoldMine Mobile are both remote access solutions for GoldMine CRM, but they have some key differences:

Availability and Support

GoldMine Web is the current and actively supported remote access solution for GoldMine. It was introduced as a replacement for GoldMine Mobile, which has been discontinued. GoldMine Web is included with GoldMine Premium Edition and is still actively supported, while GoldMine Mobile was discontinued and replaced by GoldMine Web in 2017.

Access Method

The two solutions differ in how users access GoldMine remotely. GoldMine Web is a browser-based application that can be accessed from any device with a modern web browser, including desktops, laptops, smartphones, and tablets. In contrast, GoldMine Mobile was specifically designed as a mobile app for iOS and Android devices.

Installation and Setup

The installation process differs between the two. GoldMine Web is installed on a Windows Server running IIS and doesn't require any software installation on end-user devices. GoldMine Mobile, on the other hand, required installation of a mobile app on each user's device.

Functionality

While both solutions provide remote access to GoldMine, there are some differences in functionality. GoldMine Web offers a broader range of features, closer to the full GoldMine Premium Edition experience, accessible through a web interface. GoldMine Mobile was more focused on providing essential CRM functions optimized for mobile devices.

Flexibility and Compatibility

GoldMine Web offers greater flexibility in terms of device and platform support. It's compatible with a wide range of desktop and mobile browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. It can be used on various operating systems, including iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS.  In summary, GoldMine Web represents the current and more versatile solution for remote access to GoldMine CRM, offering broader compatibility and a closer experience to the full GoldMine Premium Edition. It has effectively replaced the more limited, mobile-specific GoldMine Mobile application.

wMobile 2016 highlights

wMobile 2016 Recap, Year in Review - W-Systems.com

wMobile is the most popular mobile and web access option for GoldMine.  So here's a review of 2016 improvements.

wMobile had a facelift with a new logo! They have also added new icons for One-click Logins, so they are more easily identified on your device or computer desktop.

Updated controls were added for date selection that are more easily used on mobile devices. Improvements were made for wMobile Desktop use on iPads and tablets, including updating the Telerik Framework used to build wMobile, to address navigation and display issues.

Notification Services were added so that users can get notifications of certain events, such as activity alarms. The conditions (rules) are configured in the wMobile Manager Console. At first, only email notifications were supported, but shortly after that, SMS text notifications were added as well. Based on this new functionality, we added a method notify users when email account credentials are invalid, such as when email passwords are updated.

Changes in wMobile Phone Edition included:

  • Photos can be uploaded to a contact record.
  • Pending Activities were added to the Dashboard.

  • A user configuration option was added so a user can change the number of items in wMobile Phone lists such as search results, pending, and history lists.

  • The email address can be added to Quick Search criteria.

Changes in wMobile Desktop Edition included:

  • International phone format can be set when creating and editing contacts.

  • When adding a zip code, it will populate city/state when creating and updating contact records.
  • Email template creation was added. Templates can include Contact1 and Contact2 fields and user variables.

  • Hyperlinks were added to the Links tab to easily open linked documents.

  • Changes were made in the Activity list to show the activity code. Filters are now ‘sticky’ so the user doesn’t have to reset these each time they view the Activity list.
  • The email address can now be added as a column in the Search Center.

  • Lookup lists can now be edited in wMobile Desktop.

  • Single records can now be deleted in wMobile Desktop, based on a user’s GoldMine permissions.

There were many changes were made over the year to improve a user’s experience with email. Problems were fixed, and menu options were simplified.

  • Functionality was added for replying to Meeting requests in both Phone and Desktop editions and adding/removing meetings to the GoldMine calendar based on acceptance status.

  • A popular user setting was added to file an email on reply. This matched an option in GoldMine that customers requested in wMobile.
  • An issue was fixed forwarding emails with inline image attachments from iOS email clients.
  • Email can be linked to a relevant opportunity/Project/Case using the ‘File with Options’ selection.

  • Searching has also been improved in the Email center in the Desktop Edition.

There were many enhancements to Opportunity/Project functionality this year including:

  • Email messages can now be linked to Projects as well as Opportunities.
  • Emails can be linked to Opportunity/Influencers and Project/Contacts. Custom fields can be added to Project list and detail views.
  • An option was added to re-link Projects.

  • Options were added to show more Opportunity/Influencers and Project/Contacts.
  • A sort option was added on Project Contacts tab and navigation options were added. ‘Go to Contact’ will navigate directly to the contact in the same browser window. ‘Open Contact’ will open the contact in a separate browser window.

  • Status and Stage filter options were added to the Opportunity list, including the option to filter on Active (not Closed) Status.

  • Opportunities can be converted to Projects.
  • Filter selections are now ‘sticky’ in wMobile Desktop Opportunity/Project list pages during a session. Users don’t have to select the same settings if they navigate between different wMobile components.

Features for administration were added including:

  • System settings and logging levels can be adjusted without restarting wMobile components and affecting logged in users.
  • Improvements were made to the wDiagnostic tool for troubleshooting.
  • An admin can set the columns for all users in the Search Center in the Manager Console User Default Settings.
  • On-screen Notification was added in the wMobile Manager Console, so a user is notified when an update is available.

  • Server 2016 is now officially supported.

We hope these developments have improved your usage of wMobile Phone and Desktop Editions and more enhancements planned for next year!

GoldMine Web and GoldMine Mobile - Email Server Side AutoLinking Tip Sheet...

Here's some handy advice from us on how to integrate your emails back into GoldMine CRM when using GoldMine Web or GoldMine Mobile...

For users of GoldMine Web:
-Configure the users device's mailto app with the same settings as the mail settings in GMPE.
-When the users logs into GoldMine Web, the connect service tells GMPE to retrieve and Link inbound messages (and outbound if the emails settings are IMAP) to GoldMine.
-Web browsers could have a mailto app setting or use the computers system settings. Depending on the browser the setting is in 'Content Settings' or a setting named something like 'Handlers'

For users of GoldMine Mobile:
-Configure the user's mailto: app on the ipad/iphone/Andriod device with the same settings as the mail settings in GMPE.
-When the users logs into GoldMine Mobile, the connect service tells GMPE to retrieve and Link inbound messages (and outbound if the emails settings are IMAP) to GoldMine.

For Mobile and Web:
-More frequent logins allow messages to go into GoldMine in a timely fashion
-Less Frequent logins would mean messages would not go into GoldMine until they login to Web/Mobile or they use GMPE or they link through outlook
-Deleting the message before linking means the e-mail cannot be linked as it no longer exists on the server.
-By logging into GM Web/Mobile, the server side auto linking process immediately starts a mail sync. Then based on retrieve interval in GMPE it reprocesses messages for the users as long as they are still logged into GM Web / Mobile
-If there is an attachment to the message, it is linked to the contact record. The path to the attachment is displayed in Web and you can click on its hyper link to view it.

Linking scenarios

1. User Logs into Web/Mobile daily, e-mail messages from last retrieval time yesterday are linked into GoldMine.
2. User logs in every other day, email messages from last retrieval time two days ago are linked into GoldMine.
3. User logged in last week, email messages from last week’s retrieval time are linked into GoldMine.
4. User logged in last month, email messages from up to 20 days ago are linked into GoldMine. Any emails older than 20 days are not linked.

GoldMine 2014.1 Hotfix 4 released

What's Changed in GoldMine 2014.1 Hotfix 4

GoldMine Premium Edition 2014.1.0.468 / GoldMine Mobile Edition 2014.1.0.662

Constant Contact Login

Due to a change made by Constant Contact, an additional layer of authentication has been added for Constant Contact login.  If you integrate with Constant Contact and get the error message ‘Login to Constant Contact failed’, follow the steps below to correct the issue:

1. Upgrade the GoldMine server
2. On a single workstation, uninstall GoldMine and reinstall the new version.  Follow the normal workstation install process to connect to the existing database.   Other workstations can be upgraded.  It is only necessary to uninstall/re-install on a single workstation.
3. On the workstation where the uninstall/re-install was done, go to Constant Contact Campaigns in GoldMine.  Click Configure and enter your Constant Contact username and password and click Login.  A second Constant Contact login page will appear.  Enter the same credentials as in previous page to complete the login process.

Once this process is complete, it will be possible to Download Activity or Refresh Campaigns List from the server or any networked workstation.  If Logout is selected on the Constant Contact page, it will be necessary to Configure again from the workstation where the re-install from step 2 was done.

GoldMine and Google Apps

If you wish to synchronize GoldMine and Google Apps calendars, you must start the GMGoogleSync service manually.  We recommend that you configure the service Properties to automatically start the service.

1. Open Services on the GoldMine Mobile Server.
2. Locate GMGoogleSync on the list.
3. Right-click on the service and select Start.

Use this procedure to set Properties to automatically start the service when the server is started.

1. Open Services on the GoldMine Mobile Server.
2. Locate GMGoogleSync on the list of services, right click and select Properties.
3. On the General tab change the Startup type field from Manual to Automatic (Delayed Start).
4. Click Apply then click OK to close the window.

NOTE:  Activities synced to GoldMine by the GMGoogleSync service will show MASTER as the user that created or modified the activity.  If you do not have a user MASTER, then the first alphabetical username with master rights will show as the user that created or modified the activity.

GoldMine and Server 2003

GoldMine Mobile Edition (GMME) 2014 requires .net 4.5 which is not supported on server 2003 so officially GoldMine Mobile 2014 will not work on server 2003, due to the fact that Microsoft .Net 4.5 is not supported on Windows server 2003.

Users may get an error 1001 when they try to install on server 2003.

This could also be expanded to say that Server 2003 will only be supported as a host server for GMPE and not for running the GMPE/GoldSync applications as this also requires .net 4.5.
