Linking Skype to GoldMine

Dial Items for Phone2, Phone 3 and Additional Contacts

To create the items for Phone 2, Phone 3 and Additional Contacts repeat steps 5 to 6 replacing the URL field with the following code.

Dial Phone 2

callto:<<&StrTran(IIF(Left(Contact1->Phone1,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contact1->Phone1,2,40),Contact1->Phone1),' ','')>>

Dial Phone 3

callto:<<&StrTran(IIF(Left(Contact1->Phone2,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contact1->Phone2,2,40),Contact1->Phone2),' ','')>>

Dial Additional Contact

callto:<<&StrTran(IIF(Left(Contsupp->Phone,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contsupp->Phone,2,40),Contsupp->Phone),' ','')>>

Dialing a Skype User

If you have created a field in GoldMine that you are using to store a Skype username against the contact then use the following code in your URL.

callto:<<&Contact2->USkypeUserID>>

Callto: Link Explained

When dialing from Skype all phone numbers dialed must include the country code you are dialing. If the phone number we are dialling does not include a code, then we must provide a default code.

In this example we are using the UK country code (+44) as our default code. We will class a phone number that begins with a zero, as a UK number.

First we use must test for a zero at the beginning of the phone number.

IIF(Left(Contact1->Phone1,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contact1->Phone1,2,40),Contact1->Phone1)

If this is true, we return +44 and using the mid() statement, return everything from the phone number field except the first character.

IIF(Left(Contact1->Phone1,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contact1->Phone1,2,40),Contact1->Phone1)

If it return false, then we return the original phone number with no changes.

IIF(Left(Contact1->Phone1,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contact1->Phone1,2,40),Contact1->Phone1)

Once we have given the phone number a default country code we must remove any spaces before passing the number to Skype. To do this we use the StrTan()function on the resulting code to replace the spaces.

StrTran(IIF(Left(Contact1->Phone1,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contact1->Phone1,2,40),Contact1->Phone1),' ','')

The whole expression is then enclosed in a special code that tells the web link to get the data from GoldMine

<<&StrTran(IIF(Left(Contact1->Phone1,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contact1->Phone1,2,40),Contact1->Phone1),' ','')>>

All that is then left to do is to place the callto: hyperlink function at the front of the expression to finish of the web link.

callto:<<&StrTran(IIF(Left(Contact1->Phone1,1)='0','+44'+Mid(Contact1->Phone1,2,40),Contact1->Phone1 ),' ','')>>

GoldMine Standard Edition 5.x, 6.0 & 6.5 De-Support Notice

The industry standard for software support is typically the past two application version releases from the most recent version release. FrontRange Solutions and GoldMine products have far exceeded these industry standards in the past.

FrontRange Solutions announces its plans to discontinue support for GoldMine Solutions 5.x, 6.0 & 6.5 releases. As an ongoing commitment to GoldMine customers, and to allow for a smooth and orderly transition off GoldMine Solutions 5.x, 6.0 & 6.5 releases to a more recent version of GoldMine, FrontRange Solutions will continue to provide customer support for GoldMine Solutions 5.x, 6.0 & 6.5 releases until October 31, 2007. This applies to all versions, EXCEPT Spanish-speaking versions, which are being supported for 6 months.

GoldMine Standard Edition 6.7 formal support will end 30th April 2008.

GoldMine Standard Edition Users are encouraged to look at upgrading to GoldMine Corporate or GoldMine Premium Editions

Suppressing a GoldMine Word merge field if the value is 0 or empty

1. In your Word template, put the cursor at the position you want the field.
2. Press CTRL + F9.
3. This puts a blank field code in the documents.  Your cursor is now between the braces.
4. Type the word IF then a space then the " symbol.
5. Press CTRL + F9 to insert another field inside the first one.
6. Now type our Goldmine codes as follows:
DDEAUTO GOLDMINE DATA CONTACT2->UFIELD \* CHARFORMAT where UFIELD is your Goldmine field.  This will vary depending on the table and field.
7. Move the cursor past the first } symbol.
8. Type another " symbol.
9. Type the two symbols < and > followed by a space.
10. Type another " symbol.
11. Press CTRL + F9 to insert another field.
12. Again type DDEAUTO GOLDMINE DATA CONTACT2->UFIELD \* CHARFORMAT.
13. Between the last to } symbols type " a space then two " symbols.
You should end up with a series of codes that look like:
Code:
{IF "{DDEAUTO GOLDMINE DATA CONTACT2->UFIELD \* CHARFORMAT}" <> "0" "{DDEAUTO GOLDMINE DATA CONTACT2->UFIELD \* CHARFORMAT}" ""}
In English this field is saying If the contents of UFIELD is less than or greater than 0 put the contents of UFIELD into this position otherwise put nothing in (this is the text between the last two "" symbols).  If the value is -1 it gets printed, if it's 1 it gets printed, if it's zero the field is not put in.
Highlight what you typed, right mouse click and select Toggle Field Codes to view the result.
FYI, while working on the use DDE instead of DDEAUTO.  That way you can change the value in GM, highlight the field in Word and press F9 to update it without having to close and reopen the document.  Once you're happy with the result, change DDE to DDEAUTO.

GoldMine Taskbar - are you using them?

The GoldMine taskbar is a great way in GoldMine of having quick, one-click access to common things like all of the menus in GoldMine, external files, external applications, web resources (like Multimap, Dun and Bradstreet, etc...) and GoldMine Macros (and Macros once created, can be shared with other GoldMine Users).

What's more, Taskbars can be 'Global' (for all Users) or 'Local', just for that User.

To display your Taskbar, go to the Window menu and select Taskbar.  Once displayed, right-click over the Taskbar to display options like creating new items/buttons.

Share information with the GoldMine Infocenter

The GoldMine Infocenter (or infocentre to us Brits) is a great place in GoldMine to share information about products, prices or procedures in your organisation.

It's basically a structured way of storing information that you want to share, that can be searched on and emailed easily to customers.  Topics that you create can also have separate attached files link to them.  If you are using GoldMine Synchronisation, these topics and files will be transferred to remote users.

Also, with the new GoldMine Premium Edition, you can put in HTML and have say a live feed of information coming from another application.

To access the Infocenter, go to View | Infocenter, or if you're using GoldMine Premium, the Knowledgebase as it's called is on one of the Navigation bar buttons.
